Hello Leo,
I do agree with you, most academic personnel tend to overcomplicate things a little. That is mostly because—academically speaking—they need to show that what they did is complex, otherwise they won't get the recognition they need in the field.
But, based on my experience, I found that most academics need to tailor their language to their audience. I do feel we as academics need to use more of a causal language to communicate our knowledge to a broader audience.
